A aerator and filter work for both sides of an aquarium divided if they are on only one side?

I have a 10 gallon aquarium that is divided half with a plastic mesh divider to hold two separate Crawdads each other, if I have an aerator and filter in one hand, it works for the other side of the aquarium well? What if the filter on one side and the aerator is on the other?

If it is as you said mesh instead of a plastic sheet with holes in it, you should be fine. I continue putting one on either side by side to avoid excess current as possible on one side.
