Why Python die?

My roommate was keeping a python for a few months and friends who had just died the other day. We're trying to figure out why. She always gave the water, had a clean cage, housing, heating device in the aquarium .. But she said feed him a mouse every two months. Without knowing anything about snakes, she followed his instructions. Could have killed the snake? Oh, and it is a python .. big fairly small and medium enterprises. Maybe two feet long? The mouse was small .. as the size of a thumb .. haha no idea how to explain that .. but are Pup Named ..
