About Blue Tang and Friends

The animated film for children suffering from 'Finding Nemo' has made the already popular Blue Tang one of the aquarium's most popular saltwater fish around. In the film, one of the main characters is a Blue Tang colorful, playful and forgetful called Dory. Since the release of this film seems like every boy wants his own saltwater aquarium with your own Dory and Nemo and each pair of parents facing the decision whether should be allowed to do. This film has had an enormous impact on the aquarium because for the first time in the eyes of the public fish is generally considered that a person has.

What Tang Dory and friends another reality?

A spike is an oval-shaped fish that is flat when viewed from the front. The pins have a small single spine on each side of caudal peduncle (just before the tail) that can be extended if necessary for self defense. When a Tang has a larger or more bones non-retractable in the same position, which belongs to the family of Health. When these fish fight, they quickly slapped his tail trying to bar his opponent with your spine.

The name of spikes or Surgeon is a common name given to many of these closely related species. It is commonly accepted that all Zebrasoma Tang called species and all species with two dorsal spines Surgeon call, while all other species only seem to be called spines or surgeon depending Tang on who you talk to, for example Blue Tang / Surgeon Azul.

In an aquarium fish heads are usually very greedy, to accept a wide variety of foods ranging from flakes, granules and algae to brine shrimp and more. These fish are often found grazing on the rocks at one of its main advantages is the control of algae in an aquarium. As they feed on algae from the rocks that are able to touch most of the day, for most species do not have to be fed every day, but some active species, such as lipstick surgeon graze not therefore need to be fed more often. Because these fish are so active, it is important make sure not to lose power condition because it is common in many reef aquariums.

The spikes can be very aggressive, especially of species or to fish in similar fashion. Since they are territorial, it is important to try to add to your aquarium pins on the same day if possible. Thus they have the same ability to establish territories. If you have to add a tang to a tank that has been established in the ear and then it is a good idea to rearrange the rocks to confuse to established fish. It is also safer to add more then one blade at a time to divert the attention of any would be attackers. These fish often do not do well if kept in pairs as one regularly dominate the other that are best kept singly or in groups. When a pin is inserted to another will usually about three days to solve their dominance hierarchy before they get along. Plus size, shape and color difference faster than this tend to be. There is always a risk when you add an ear of an aquarium with other spikes, and that may be incompatible and may even kill each other.

The spikes are very prone to white spot disease, since they have no skin and scales. It's a good idea to quarantine these fish with medications such as sulfate copper or formalin for a period of about 2-3 weeks before they are introduced to a display tank to reduce the persecution of them the spread of disease other fish in the tank.

It is highly recommended that you add pins to a tank with a salinity as low as 1.018. This relieves low osmotic stress and reduces the risk of infection of white spot. If you have a display tank, it is harmless to corals to lower salinity for a period of approximately a week and slowly increase again next week once the fish have been introduced safely. Corals can not open, so, while the level of salt is low, but will return to its former glory once the salt has become gradually.

Every time these fish white spot contract, the fall in salinity ensure that feed and food in garlic. Most good aquarium stores food reserves high in garlic as New Life Spectrum Flakes Seachem garlic or solutions Guard, you can add other foods to reduce the susceptibility of a fish are parasitic infections such as white spot.

The head and erosion lateral line is another common condition with spikes, which tends to be a problem with fish that have been maintained for many years on a diet of low vitamin. Affected fish by this condition have what looks like small craters in the head or along the sideline. Increasing the quality and variety of food offered and specifically targeting the amount of vitamin A in the diet can view this reversed condition. It is important to make a comprehensive review of water quality and control what the fish feed if over time you see the status or the color of the fish deteriorate. The fact that a fish is feeding well in the short term does not mean it getting what you need in the long term. Always monitor the condition of the fish in time and remember that there is no substitute for high quality food.

Spikes can grow very quickly in an aquarium so it is important to leave adequate space and plenty of hiding places as adults range from 15-40cm. The spikes will spend much of their days feeding among the rocks and energetically very dart around the aquarium and in particular in and out of the rocks. A good cover of the rocks is important for these fish to ensure they have a dark place you can escape to feel safe when they are stressed. Have a safe dark place to allow a fish to calm stands contributing faster and to keep your immune system and prevent disease development.

Some of the spikes are the most popular Blue Tang, Powder Blue Tang, Sailfin Tang, Yellow Tang, Purple Tang, Scopus Brown Tang, Achilles Tang, Kole Tang, surgeon lipstick and Orange Shoulder Tang.

The Blue Tang hepatus is Paracanthurus Tang also known as Regal and is a common salt water fish found on coral reefs often in large schools feeding on algae and zooplankton. The Blue Tang is undoubtedly the most popular species of the spike, its bold color and laughter active nature and it is a temptation for all fans. This fish is widely available, and is found on many reefs in the world, more often than Australia. It is sweet, fast growing and can get to about 30 cm long.

This fish is known for his choice of sleeping arrangements, as they often cosmetic surgery some of the most bazaar and looking awkward position when he retires to spend night, often at the same time each day, regardless of whether the light is on or off. Another common behavior of this fish is a habit of lying at the bottom of tank as if he's dead. This is often the children told me while I'm working on a retail aquarium shop. Children often say "Excuse me sir, there is dead fish "and of course whenever the latter is just a strange blue stem usual practice is to rest. With a little touch on the glass children are happy to see the fish jumping in the hope of obtaining a food.

Careful consideration should be given before adding the fish, and that white spot very easily and is therefore highly recommended to quarantine. A Blue Tang should only be introduced to a tank with a low level of salt.

Once the fish has been installed in the tank can be a very tough, long live fish that will take you and your family years of enjoyment.

The Powder Blue Tang Acanthurus leucosternon a fish is rarely recommended as it is similar to the Blue Tang, but their success rate in an aquarium is even smaller. In many respects, is similar to keep a blue tang, but is more susceptible to white spot and die very easily, partly because it is in Australia and therefore imported, ie which is probably pretty stressed at the time that he even aquarium shop. It is important to only buy fish from a retailer that is reliable and only caught in fishing nets because fish from the Indo-Pacific, where catching fish with cyanide is common.

A big warning for everybody who wish to get this fish is that once settled can become very aggressive. Although not grow as fast as a blue stem that can reach up to 25 cm.

The Achilles Achillies Acanthurus Tang is one of the most wanted and asked about swords. Many people eagerly seek these fish until they learn how difficult it is to come, how expensive it is and how difficult it is to maintain. In many ways, such as the survival rate and size of this fish is quite similar to the Tang Powder Blue only more larger, less aggressive and more difficult to maintain.

Its rarity coupled with its low survival rate and the high price means that it is recommended only if a High quality UV sterilizer and more companies will run on any display tank housing this fish. The money saved not having to replace the fish after several attempts to keep you can afford, even for the best of the UV units, which will benefit the entire population of your tank.

The Sailfin Tang Zebrasoma is veliferum Tang true and a great choice as aquarium fish, as it has great colors, easy to maintain and not too expensive, since it is readily available in Australia.

This fish can reach 40 cm in length so should allow adequate space to grow. As with all fish in their growth is stunted if kept in a small tank.

This fish is very similar to the most expensive and rare Red Sea Sailfin Tang Zebrasoma desjardinii also a great fish to keep in an aquarium. The darker version of the Red Sea is stronger pattern but not as common or as robust when first introduced.

It is rare to see an aquarium reef without Zebrasoma flavescens Yellow Tang, this is because it is a great aquarium fish that loves to eat algae. Its striking yellow color is unmistakable, with its noisy, gluttonous personality is a must for any reef aquarium. You may recognize the Yellow Tang as "bubbles" in the film Finding Nemo, and its inclusion as a character has also seen the increasing popularity of the Tang to the general public. It is common to have children in a store standing in front aquarium a tank containing a Yellow Tang calling her parents "Look, look its bubbles."

The most commonly yellow spikes from Hawaii and can grow to 18 cm in length, but usually much slower than other species of the ear. The color of this fish can be quite irregular in the night, but color is bright yellow during the day.

This fish tends to be very easy to maintain and is often my first choice when recommending an ear to any aquarium.

The Brown Scopas Tang Zebrasoma scopas rarely expensive and very good to keep, and it is very strong and has all the same behavior but the Yellow Tang is a bit more shy. This fish is commonly available in Australia, but not as commonly sold because, as its name suggests, is bold in color, so it's not a fish very popular in the hobby. This fish is very good for beginners and has beautiful blue mark, if you look up close to the fish.

Purple Tang Zebrasoma xanthurus is from the Red Sea is very similar to the yellow tang but much more expensive, rare and aggressive. Most aquarium stores are lucky to get these fish a few times a year and the shares are sold very quickly because they are easy to keep and a real novelty for many aquarists patient.

If you want to keep a Yellow Tang with Purple Tang's worth making sure that the Yellow Tang is much larger than the purple and purple tend to be more aggressive. Although these fish tend to stay together, not always work, because they are aggressive to any fish that is similar to them. Housing more than one of these fish per tank not recommended.

This fish is very susceptible to head and lateral line erosion, so it is very important to offer a high quality varied diet from the beginning. While most are safely stored in the reef tank, this fish tends to be more harsh on the corals that most spikes. They species usually only bother some large polyps.

Not so rare is the subtle, but beautiful Ctenochaetus strigosus Kole Tang also called Yellow Eyed teeth bristle. This fish is found throughout the world, growing to 15 cm in length and a rarely appreciated by beginners, is very popular among fans is intermediate willing to pay a little more than a beautiful fish. This fish is a great addition to most tanks, as it rarely causes problems, eat a lot of filamentous algae, gets along well with most fish and not too difficult to maintain.

This fish is a great catch at any time if available. You rarely hear a bad word anyone else's.

A large male Lipstick lituratus Naso Surgeon can reach 50 cm long whips and has parallels in the top and bottom tail what is a very striking spectacle. This fish is reef safe and will do best in a large aquarium, but even do well as a couple, and is rarely aggressive. This fish is often difficult to maintain in the long term, because even if the fish seems to be feeding, they can still starve to death over time. It is a big fish active, often consume low-nutrient foods for nutrition is the main concern of this fish. When the fish is stressed that often swim erratically and feed no. This power leakage is a common cause of death in this species. Containing products such as Aloe Vera Stresscoat tend to have a calming effect on this type of fish high stress. Any fish that swim erratically instead of hiding when they are stressed are always at a disadvantage in an aquarium. In order to keep this fish for a long period of time you need to make sure you're getting enough high quality food, and feeding at least twice a day. A version blonde a little more expensive in Hawaii, which has a yellow stripe on the top of the fish instead of the normal black.

Rarely recommend this fish, although a very good sales pitch, due to its charm. I suggest you make sure the fish is feeding before buying.

Finally, the orange shoulder Tang olivaceus Acanthurus is a big problem, common, easy to maintain, Tang Australia free and perfect for any aquarium. When the fish is small, has a beautiful orange color, but as it grows becomes more of a dull green color with orange shoulder. Despite its loss of color, these fish are still selling very well because normally when sold at reasonable prices in Australia

There are many fish in the family Surgeon Tang and worth considering as additions to the tank. Size, strength, aggression, rarity and price are factors to be taken into account in making decisions.
