I need some good supplies for our new aquarium?
Hi, I wondered what the water conditioner is best for my tank. I saw it was very nice. I do not remember the brand but not chlorinate the water, removes all creators of algae and ammonia, and can be added at any time to clarify water and remove ammonia and algae without any harm to the fish. This is what I found and thought it would be better, but I'm new to this game and would like some suggestions. I have 20-gallon tank and want to have some warm water fish with a pH of about 7.0, so they can have some exotic fish. Any suggestions would be great, what kind of conditioner do I need, test kits, supplements of water and all those fun things. I have the tank and all of my gravel is clean artificial plants, small air pump, water pump heater aqua bio-tech filter, lights, and the fantasy of white fish. Thanks for your feedback.
First step is the cycle of your tank. http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm Once the tank is fully cycled (cycling process will take at least 3-4 weeks) make sure you have complete education in itself the requirements of selected fish before bringing them home. Here is a good place to start: http://www.peteducation.com/category.cfm?c=16+1911 also have a read through this site to help with the installation of basic maintenance aquarium and fish care in general http://www.firsttankguide.net/ Stress Coat is a water conditioner in good quality. I would not trust any product that claims to remove algae. That's your job, and should be done by placing your aquarium away from direct light source, such as windows, making your aquarium lights off at night, not overfeeding, keeping the weekly changes water 25%, with a gravel trap and manually removing any algae growth in plants / decor / glass. Whatever water conditioner you choose, you must remove both chlorine and chloramines. You need a good test kit that includes principal tests for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and pH. Choose a version Drop (API makes good), as the strips are notoriously unreliable. Good luck.
