Control algae in your aquarium

Algae are plants that are not desirable in any aquarium. Once the algae grow in an aquarium, which will compete with other inhabitants of the aquarium of nutrients and other resources necessary for survival. Therefore it is necessary to control algae in aquariums. Algae can not be completely removed from an aquarium, but using certain preventive measures, the amount of algae will almost certainly be reduced to the minimum.

First, let's see factors that promote algae growth.

1.Sunlight – Like any other plant life, sunlight is absolutely essential for the growth of algae too. Although sunlight is very good for the aquarium water, the same sunlight can cause algae to grow, which could be harmful to living organisms. Not only direct sunlight, but any form of artificial light in the aquarium also promote algae growth if maintained continuously for more than 10 hours per day.

2.Nutrient levels – algae will grow faster if there is an excess of nutrients in your aquarium. All plants require nitrates, phosphates and silicates for better growth. By introducing nutrients in the aquarium, the levels of these nutrients could go higher, which would facilitate the growth of algae.

population 3.Plant – algae grow faster in a tank if there are very few plants in the tank to compete, because then you can get all the resources in the tank.

Now we know what the major factors underpinning the growth of algae in water tanks, we can understand the methods that can be used to check the growth algae. The following are some methods of control of algae that can be used even by amateur aquarium owners: –

1.There are some species fish that feed on algae. These fish are known as fish tank cleaner. Some of the cheap and popular fish tank cleaner are available or catfish suckermouth otos midgets, Siamese eat algae, stuffy nose Pleco, catfish industry and even Japanese algae eating shrimp. You can enter one of these fish in the tank once it starts to show infiltration of algae. It may also include a hermit crab or a snail, and that feed on algae as well.

2.With a protein skimmer could be a very good option too. protein skimmers are devices that remove unwanted proteins from the tank environment. They eliminate the organic compounds dissolved in the tank, which would otherwise promote algae growth. Bring nutrient levels down. protein skimmers also reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide carbon reservoir, which algae, plants are, the need for the preparation of food through photosynthesis.

3.Reduce the amount of actinic light in setting up your aquarium. Lighting is blue actinic light, and helps promote the growth of algae if used excessively. The ideal situation would be to use 50% of the actinic light is mixed with 50% white spectrum (day) light. In addition, light sources must be replaced periodically. All VHO (very high output) Fluorescent lights should be replaced after eight months. metal halide lamps to do with an annual replacement. It should also be remembered not for maintain artificial light source continuously for more than 10 hours in a day.

4.Carbon dioxide is directly responsible for the growth of algae, and that, after all, are plants. If the carbon dioxide filter choked, then the possibility that the carbon dioxide level in the tank will high. Using a pump in the tank to allow water to circulate continuously is how to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the tank. You can find out when the level of carbon dioxide in the aquarium is going through checking the value of alkalinity and pH of the water inside the tank. If these levels show a dip abnormal, then it's time to do something about rising carbon dioxide levels inside the tank.
