Do you have any tips on cleaning the aquarium ornaments and plants?

Did you buy special tools or just use a brush teeth? My kind of seaweed is dark brown. Is this harmful to fish? That's in my tropical tank. In my / cold water fish tank colors of dark green algae. Can I use the same tank cleaning equipment or should I keep them apart?
