I play sand clarifying the use as substrate in a freshwater aquarium. How I can know when it is clean enough?
I had the water flowing into a bucket of sand for a while, hoping that impurities that reach the top and let the bucket overflow. By mixing sand until the water turns murky brown. Is that impurities, or simply what happens no matter how clean the sand?
The sand is pretty clean when can remove the sand in the water and have water running clear and remains clear when the water pour out of the arena. A jet of water in the bucket just clean especially the top layer grains of sand. You need to remove the sand (hand, a large stick, a small shovel, etc) as the water runs over it. Play sand is a lot rinse before it is suitable for use in aquariums. There is a very pure sand to begin with. In other words, it contains a large amount of mud and debris several that must be eliminated. If you do not rinse well, you'd have, because it will make the water yellow or brown and cloudy.
