Aquarium Rocks Large

Setting Up Your Aquarium

The creation of an aquarium requires some basic knowledge, but is not as daunting a task as a first imagine.

Before putting anything in the aquarium, make sure the glass is very clean. You do not have the chance again for a long, long time. If you have a old tank, remove all deposits of lime in the glass. Rub the inside with ordinary table salt and a little water. Rinse well. If this does not remove all deposits, use steel wool or a razor blade scraper.

Throughout the United States and Canada, dealers are packed sand for aquariums. This sand is recommended, but if you are in a position where there is no distributor, we suggest you use river sand or coarse sand one of the heavy use by the builders. silver sand and other well not useless, because they rise too easily in water. Because much of the sand along the United States is giving lime, a simple test is made to see that the sand is free of lime.

heavy weight of sand of various types, with different colors, sometimes you can get from any patio builder. You have to go through a wire sieve to remove all stones, and then washed thoroughly to remove all dust, dirt and fine sand.

Washing may be done by placing in a bucket under a faucet in the sink or hose in the garden. Stir well until the water runs clear bucket overflow. A test can be done by putting some sand in a jar and pour the water into that. If water is cloudy, the sand is ready.

Now the sand, still wet is carefully spread on the basis of the entire tank. If you are using the method of biological filtration to keep the aquarium clean, keep the filter panel strongly in place with one hand. Then take handfuls of sand and pull gently on the filter and around the edges of the filter cap. Add wet sand so deep you might want. One to two inches is good. Usually inclined to be deeper in the back.

At this point, the rocks can be added. If more than one level is necessary, two or three large pieces of rock can be placed in a row or a semicircle, and enclosed by sand filled. If there is only one level is planned, smaller pieces can be placed at desired points as if carried there by river action.

Do not overdo the rocks. We have seen tanks that are more as a stonemason's yard, or a cemetery, an underwater scene. Remember that rocks displace water, and the two, water is the most valuable for fish and plants.

The best type of rock to be used are the sandstones, of which there are many types, in various shades of brown, yellow, green and gray. Granite can also be used, and some varieties of quartz, which give an effect very extravagant, but are inclined to present sharp edges which can hurt fish.

Where possible, the stone Selected and water must be worn, as this seems more natural and is not as likely to be harmful as the new rotation. Limestone is not safe to use as some types allow the water to dissolve the lime and hard water. Marble, alabaster, spar, and gypsum are the worst and should never be used. colored rocks should be tested before use, since some of them contain chemicals that are toxic to fish, for example, rocks that contain copper. Shale, coal or coke (first lava pit) can be used successfully in time.

When everything is ready, we can turn our attention to filling the tank with water.
Congratulations! You are on track to have a fully functional aquarium.
