Planted Aquarium Substrate
What is the best way to clean a substrate in a planted tank?

I'm using Fluorite substrate, and I have some plants that have thin and deeply planted rooted in the substrate, and was wondering how I can clean without disturbing them.

Hi, If we are talking about Seachem Fluorite, a clay that just about the ideal substrate for growing plants, at least that's opinion. Or another brand of the same type of product, it really does not matter. But the way mine is clean with clean gravel also a long thin stick. (Depending on the size of your tank is densely planted and how it depends on the size of the gravel filter is used) siphon hose I have an online play over clean gravel, so you can adjust the suction flow as they approach the plants make enough to lift the soil and pull out waste then drop back to the floor substrate. Use the cane in areas where you can not get the cleaner and remove gravel the substrate, I pass the gravel cleaner to pick up on this waste. I am very careful around the roots of plants and usually only go as close as one inch or inch and a half depending on the type of plant. Hope this helps.
